SAN DIEGO, CA - True stories are so much more interesting.
The team at Uptown 11 Studios knows from experience. We’ve spent decades telling real stories about real people for the world’s leading news organizations.
Founded in 2024 in Normal Heights, the creative agency’s name is a nod to the the No. 11 streetcar line that carried San Diegans from downtown up to Adams Avenue in the olden days.
In that spirit, we’re proud to help connect San Diegans by using the Who, What, When, Where and Why that we learned back in journalism school to tell true stories about the people, businesses and brands that make this region special.
Who: Sam Hodgson, Founder and Creative Director (he/him; b. 1984, Christchurch, New Zealand; full bio; full resumé; photojournalism portfolio) has called San Diego home since immigrating to the U.S. as a child. He most recently served as Director of Photography and Video for his hometown paper, The San Diego Union-Tribune. Prior, he traversed the nation covering the biggest stories in the world as a freelance photojournalist for The New York Times.
What: A story production factory based in San Diego. A flaming ball of creative energy for hire. A one-stop-shop for telling your brand’s story online. (our full list of services)
When: We’re already rolling. We were proud to work with renowned chefs Charlie Knowles and Manny Da Luz to launch websites for their neighborhood café bica (Eater calls it one of the hottest restaurants in San Diego. We tend to agree) and the forthcoming (Jan. 5!) Butcher’s Plate.
Where: We’re primarily focused on building brands and businesses rooted or growing here in San Diego, but welcome creative collaboration from all corners of the earth.
Why: Your business or brand needs to tell its story to the public. And we can help.
